Data Policy
Introduction
The objective of this document is proportionate the main policies regard metadata creation and data submission that the IAI Researchers are suppose to follow and accept. These policies are being presented in order to ensure that all metadata are available to the community, and that appropriate credit is given to the group that have obtained the data. Also the copyrights matters will be included on this document.
The Policy
1) Data generated by a project granted by the IAI will become open and will be permanently archived in the computers of the IAI Directorate, in Brazil. The IAI will give 2 years of exclusivity rights, so the researchers can use that data during that period. Exceptions may occur for copyright data. Each case will be considered and analysed by the IAI Directorate in cooperation with the responsible for the project.
2) Data generated by a project granted by the IAI should be made available to the IAI Directorate computers in a year-based by the Principal Investigator or project representative. If data has some source of copyright, it can be restricted to authorized people, but still should be submitted to the IAI.
3) The Principal Investigator is responsible to make sure that all data generated within the project granted by the IAI is referenced as metadata in the DIS. Also, he is responsible to identify a project participant that will be in charge of metadata creation and maintenance.
4) Each data should be referenced as one metadata on the DIS. So, if a certain project produces 100 different data during a year, the system should have 100 metadata referencing that data.
5) The IAI, through the DIS, will provide tools for metadata creation, storing and maintenance, searching of metadata and data, distribution of data and update of metadata and data.
6) The Researchers are expected to actively participate in data creation, data maintenance, data sharing and specially in keeping each metadata up-to-date.
7) While open data sharing is at the essence of the IAI-DIS, the intellectual property rights of the data originator are also considered by this policy. Data can not be made available without proper written permission of the owner.
8) Researchers agree to include acknowledgement in each new publication that is using at least one practical result from the project granted by the IAI.
9) Each data submitted to the DIS, should be made available in a well-know format or at least a link to the viewer application be informed within the metadata.
10) The data submission should be made exclusively through the DIS Metadata Editor area.
