Luciano Accioly received a PhD in Soil, Water and Environmental Sciences from The University of Arizona. He works at the Brazilian Agricultural Research Coorporation (Embrapa) where he is coordinating a project for assessment and monitoring desertification in the State of Pernambuco. He is also currently member of the brazilian´s National Comission to Combat Desertification.
