Regina Célia dos Santos Alvalá

Regina Célia dos Santos Alvalá received a PhD in Meteorology from the Nacional Institute for Space Research (INPE) in São José dos Campos, Brazil. She works at the INPE, where she is coordinating a project for mapping vegetation and land use cover of the Brazilian territory. The land cover mapping is used with soil vegetation atmosphere scheme coupled with regional and global meteorological models for climate studies and weather forecast. Regina’s research is part of a INPE effort to the production of land cover maps to be applied to climate models in order to improve the understanding of the complex interactions that occur between land surface and the atmosphere.
